In Mark chapter 6, several settings appear where people are gathered. There is the synagogue of His hometown, the birthday feast of Herod, and the deserted place where people gathered to hear the word of Jesus. The purposes of the gatherings differ, and what took place there differs as well. Yet when we read these settings together, it is revealed whom people hold dear and what they try to protect. Through what we see there, we can examine our own hearts and learn the heart of the Lord, who deals with us.
