When Jesus was alone, those around Him, together with the twelve disciples, asked the meaning of the parable. Jesus said that the mystery of the kingdom of God had been given to them, and explained the parable of the sower. They did not stop at merely remembering the story the multitude had heard, but learned its meaning from the Lord. We, too, after hearing the word, must not let the parts we do not understand simply pass by, but must learn the will of the Lord who spoke it.
