Jesus asked whether a lamp is brought to be put under a basket or under a bed. A lamp is brought to be set on a lampstand and light up the inside of the house. Although Jesus had said just before this that He speaks the mystery of the kingdom of God in parables to those outside, that mystery was not something to be kept hidden forever. As He said, “There is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light” (Mark 4:22), even what He had hidden for a while was something He intended to reveal when the time came.
