When we hear the word of God often, there come to be many parts that we grow familiar with. But we must distinguish between the fact that we are familiar with the word and the fact that we believe that word in our hearts. This is because one can fail to abandon one’s own thoughts even before a passage one knows well, and one can still hold on to one’s own sins even before the gospel one has heard many times. What is more important than the number of times we have heard the word is accepting into our hearts the facts that God has spoken. The Bible also exhorts us, “But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of” (2 Timothy 3:14).
