John the Baptist was the one who came to the wilderness and preached the baptism of repentance for the washing away of sins. Not only that, he was the one who would give the baptism that passes the sins of all the people of this world on to Jesus. John the Baptist was not an ordinary man; he was the representative of mankind. And he was the servant of God who passes all the sins of mankind on to Jesus. At the time when John the Baptist was born on this earth, this world was full of sin and idolatry. When all iniquity abounded on this earth, all people were waiting for the Savior who would save them from sin.
